In History we are learning all about toys. The children shared their homework with the class and brought in their toy to show and discuss. We sorted them into different categories and the children did a super job of thinking of how could sort them
IMPACT: the children can sort toys according to different criteria and use this information to form general judgements about toys from today.
We decided that many of todays toys are designed so they are safe for children to use. We also found that many are electronic, plastic, colourful and interactive.

Maths this week!
In maths this week we have been learning all about position and movement. The children have been using positional language to describe where objects are and also to describe positions such as first, second and third. We have been programming Beebots with directions including left, right, forwards, backwards and also clockwise and anti clockwise. The children had great fun. Also we have been learning all about turns including half turn, quarter turn, three quarter turn and full turn.

Our superstar this week has been trying so hard with both her reading and writing. She is blending her words to
aid her reading and is applying her phonetic knowledge to her writing. She always
listens and her confidence is starting to grow.

Fire Service Visit in Year 1
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service
Visit Stanley
The Fire Brigade came into school on Tuesday to talk to us about fire safety and what the emergency services use today. We compared the equipment that is used today with what was available in 1666 during the time of the Great Fire of London.
In order for children to understand how quickly fire spreads and the important role of the Fire Service, we recreated part of Pudding Lane from the Great Fire of London on our playground.
Take a look at our video below.

Superstar 12.04.18
Our superstar this week has been so enthusiastic in all her lessons since
being back after the holiday. She has come back to school so refreshed and is
eager to join in with everything! She is answering questions on the
carpet, she is contributing fantastic ideas in her group work and her reading
and writing have improved massively. She is a lovely, smiley little girl and an
absolute pleasure to teach.
